Last night I had a hard time falling asleep. I kept reliving 30 seconds of my day over and over in my head. Wondering if I should have acted differently than I did. In reality it was more like 10 seconds, but it really doesn't matter how long it was, it felt like much longer.
You see, for a while now I've been training for the upcoming Columbus Half Marathon. Yesterday I set out for what I thought was going to be an easy, routine 3 miler. I hoped to be gone for 26 minutes. I started out a little fast and quickly got into a good groove. I was running along listening to the song "Nothing To Worry About" by Peter Bjorn and John... It's ironic looking back now that that's what was playing because halfway through the song I was going to have something big to worry about. Something big and hairy with very large teeth. I knew they were large because the dog was running straight towards me barking a not-at-all-friendly growl and bearing every one of those large teeth. I stopped dead in my tracks and watched helplessly as the large dog ran across the street dragging its leash behind it. The owner started yelling at it's dog to stop and the biggest wave of adrenaline I've ever had rushed over my body. I put my arms over my face making an X to try and shield my face. Then I screamed a scream that I couldn't duplicate today if you paid me. I yelled in desperation to the owner to "GET YOUR DOG" 4 times before the dog actually reached me. He jumped at me and then I closed my eyes. When I didn't feel impact, I looked to see the dog running back across the street to it's owner.
The owner yelled something I couldn't hear over my ipod and gave me a friendly wave. I felt stupid and didn't know what to do... All I could do was wave back, even though it didn't feel at all like the right thing to do. Then I continued with my run. I had tears going down my cheeks and I ran while I silently cried. The crying only lasted about 5 minutes while my adrenaline level came back down.
I have to say it was the worst run of my life. Also my best. How?? The adrenaline pumping through my veins and my mind thinking through how I should have reacted gave me the energy to have my fastest run yet. I ran 3 miles in 22 and a half minutes. Not that fast to many runners, but to me it was a new personal record. I've never been able to run more than 1 mile at that pace, let alone 3 in a row.
Thank you big old doggie or not eating my face off. And thank you for giving me stiff legs this morning. I have come to peace with our encounter and today I am thanking my lucky stars that I'm not a mail carrier!
On to more exciting things... I just finished this book and LOVED it. I couldn't put it down! Thanks AnnDee for recommending it. It definitely is a must read.
Will just had his 9 month check up. He is still the best baby in the world. Sorry to all the other babies out there, but it's true. I just can't get enough of him.

Here are Will's 9 month stats:
Weight: 18 lbs 8 oz. (20%)
Height: 28" (dropped to 50%)
Head: 17 3/4" (50%)
Army crawling all over the place. Eats just about everything put in front of him. Waves bye-bye and tries to clap hands. Gives great big slobbery kisses and loves to dance. Sleeping varies each night lately. 2 bottom teeth.
Last night he looked at Mike and said "dad" (sounded like dud)... Mike and I looked at each other and didn't know what to think... I think it was his first real word.
And yes, he still sucks his thumb. I have accepted that there isn't anything I can do about it at this point in time. And I have to admit it's still cute to me.
While I'm at it, I forgot to post Miles 4 year stats:
Height: 39" and Weight 33 1/2 lbs. 25% across the board.
I just had Miles's parent/teacher conference yesterday, and they told me what I already know about Miles. He's sweet, a good listener, has and great coordination. They mentioned he's great with a ball - just like his daddy. They told me he writes above average for his age and they were impressed with his writing ability. They also mentioned that Miles is great at sticking up for himself without being mean. Miles is my little man and I enjoy everyday with him! And yes, he still wears shorts everyday.
Lately this is Miles's favorite thing to do... Play on my itouch. He is better at most of the games than I am. I can see him becoming addicted, so I have to limit his play time.
