In exactly one week we find out what this baby is. I can't wait! You'd think since we already have at least one of both sexes that we wouldn't really care what this is. That's true. We would welcome either and be excited... Although, we are still just as excited as ever to find out what this little one is. I of course have my own idea about what this baby is and Mike has his, but just for kicks let's see what the old wives tales have to say in the matter... (Make a note that I really don't believe in these theories, but it's fun anyway.)
#1 - Cravings during pregnancy. "They say" if you want salty foods, sour foods, meat & cheese you are having a boy. If you want sweets, fruit, and orange juice it's a girl. I constantly want any and all food, but I've particularly been craving sweets and fruit this time around. With Will I couldn't get enough chips and salsa... Lot's of salt with Will. Not so much this time - except I do love pickles and cheeseburgers. So I guess I'm right in the middle.
MY RESULT = INCONCLUSIVE#2 - The Chinese Lunar Calendar. This is the one wives tale that has been 100% accurate with all our kids up to this point. You need to be sure you're using a calendar that converts your real age at conception to your chinese lunar age...
Here's a link that does that.
MY RESULT = GIRL#3 - How you carry. It is said that if you carry high it's a girl and low is a boy.
Here's my belly at 19 weeks. It looks like this baby is sitting right in the middle to me...
MY RESULT: INCONCLUSIVE
#4 - Heart Rate. It's said if the baby's heart rate is over 140 then you're having a girl. Under 140 is boy. (We learned with Will that this isn't accurate since at one of my appointments his heart rate was 162...) At my last appointment this baby's heart rate was 155.
MY RESULT = GIRL#5 - Headaches. They say if you have more headaches than usual it's a boy. I have had only a few headaches since I've been pregnant, not often at all. I'd say I've been having the same or even less headaches than usual.
MY RESULT = GIRL#6 - Father's Weight Gain. If the dad gains weight along with the mother then it's a girl. If not, it's a boy. Mike's weight is the same as when I first got pregnant. (Maybe even a pound or two less thanks to the food poisoning he got last weekend :)
MY RESULT = BOY#7 - Hairy legs. If the hair on your legs is growing faster than usual, it's a boy. If it stays the same, it's a girl. I think this is mostly because it's summer and my leg hair grows less when it's warm, but it's definitely not growing at a faster rate. (Also, I do remember that when I was pregnant with Will, my pony tail got really thick. After I had him, I shed it like a grizzly bear. I haven't noticed any difference in my pony tail yet... There's still plenty of time for that to happen, but it's the same so far.)
MY RESULT = GIRL#8 - The Needle test. If you dangle a needle or wedding ring on a string over the baby the way it moves will tell you what you're having. If it swings in circles it's a girl and if it goes back and forth it's a boy. I tried getting Mike to help me with this and he thought it was dumb and wouldn't really cooperate. I tried doing it to myself and couldn't get a result.
MY RESULT - INCONCLUSIVE#9 - How sick and nauseous you are. Really sick and nauseous means a girl. With this pregnancy I've had the hardest first 15 weeks of all my pregnancies. (Personally I think it just gets harder with each pregnancy and harder the older I get. I think that has more to do with how I feel than what the baby's gender is.)
MY RESULT = GIRLOverall results: 5 girls, 3 inconclusives, and 1 boy... We'll know for sure in 7 days. I can't wait to see if we'll add to our little crew of boys or finally get a sister for Morgan! Really we can't go wrong either way. Check back next Tuesday!!
