Don't let that 1/2 fool you... This was one seriously challenging race.
Last weekend Mike completed the Bear Lake Brawl Half Iron Man. He didn't just complete it either, he picked it up, put it in his mouth, chewed it to pieces, and then spit it out like it was nothing. The race consisted of a 1.2 mile swim (which he did in 36 minutes), a 56 mile bike (which he did in 2:44), and a 13.1 mile run (which he did in 2:06). Overall he went over 70 miles in 5 hours 32 minutes and 57 seconds.
Impressive right! I mean, seriously impressive!!
Here he is right after the race. (I'm shocked he's smiling.)

Here's a shot of the fellas he trained and raced with. These guys are all in our ward and they have formed such a strong bond this past year. It may have something to do with getting together 4 days a week at 5am to ride bikes - some days they even did 2 a day workouts. Each one of these men have busy lives and had to juggle finding time to train in between being the sole providers for their families (they all have demanding professions), being great husbands and dads to their 4-5 kids each, and taking care of their church responsibilities. They almost always did their training during times when kids were asleep -either early in the morning or after helping put kids to bed. A group of good men right here, that's for sure!
Sitting around soaking up the fact that they survived.

Mike has many amazing qualities, but one that stands out to me is his mental strength. He can push himself to accomplish whatever he sets his mind to, and more importantly to do it well. I'm so proud of my half iron-man!
