Hoop Shoot

Last week the school held it's annual Hoop Shoot competition.  I don't know much about it yet, but I'm learning. 

From what I understand, Hoop Shoot is a national free throw contest for kids 8-12 years old.  Elementary schools across the nation allow their students over 8 years old to shoot free throws to see which students can make the most.  Then the top 3 boys and top 3 girls from 2-6 grade move on to the next 'level'.  They then compete again to see if they can continue in the competition.  The really good kids move on to regional, state and national levels.  It's a fun little competition for the kids to get involved with at a young age.

This kind of think is right up Miles' alley.  He's been waiting for hoop shoot all year.  Finally it came.  The day of hoop shoot, Miles came home from school and looked totally defeated.  He said, "I only made 9 out of 25 shots.  They haven't told us the winners yet, but I doubt I'll make the top 3."  I gave him a hug and said he can work on it for next year.  He's only 8 after all - the youngest age in the competition.  

The next day I picked Miles up from school and he was beaming.  

This is what I saw….

First place for the 3rd grade!!  He gets to move on (and he won a new basketball!).  Yeah Miles!!  

I see many mornings being spent in the church gym over the next couple weeks.  (And not because we want him to practice, because he wants to!  I admire his drive and focus!)

Meggie's a big girl and here's why….

Meg isn't my baby anymore.  It makes me a little sad.  She's a big girl that likes to do big girl things.  

But there are lots of perks to hanging out with a big girl.  

Meg and I went out to lunch for the first time all by ourselves.  She sat at the table with me and we talked and colored and had a good time.  I'm got a taste of what all those girls-night-outs will be like in the future.  I plan to have many of those with my two girls!!  

(Little Meg fact: Meg LOVES water.  She usually picks water over juice, soda or milk…  So when she gets a kids meal that comes with a drink, I always get her a drink and a side of water.  See how happy that makes her :)  

Meg is finally big enough to sit through a movie.  YAY!  It's so fun to go out as a family.  We don't usually take our kids to movies because we have to split up, but now we can all go :)  

The key is having lots of treats and popcorn!  

Meg likes to sneak out and play with her "big" friends.  I thought Meg and Will were in the backyard playing, but nope.  I got this text from the next door neighbor asking if I wondered where my kids were… Little stinkers.  But I can tell it makes Meg feel so big to have her big buddies.  

Another thing that makes Meg feel so big is going to birthday parties.  She's been to a few in the last couple months and she LOVES them!  She usually tells me to wait in the car while she walks in because she can do it all by herself.  

(This dinosaur party Aunt Brooke threw was her favorite!  My sister knows how to throw a party!  When I came to pick Will and Meg up, she told me she was fine and I could go away :(  

I'm glad she's loving getting bigger and having some independence.  We love our baby, even though she really isn't our baby anymore!  

Halloween Dancers

Morgan and Kate (and a zillion other girls) danced at the Bountiful High Football game half-time show with the Bountiful High Drill Team.  It was pretty dang cute!  

The girls all wore Halloween costumes (luckily we had one in the basement from last year so she didn't have to wear this years costume.  Nobody can see that before Halloween!!)  

The girls had such a fun time!

The siblings all came and cheered them on.  So fun! 

Miles Flag Football Wrap-up

Why does watching my boys play sports bring me so much happiness?  It's one of my very favorite things to do.  

Miles flag football team once again rocked the house!!  Coach Nadauld worked these boys at practice and on the field.  It paid off!  They worked well as a team and they never lost a game.  They did have a tie or two, but won all the rest. (That's according to Miles - I need to double check that fact with Mike :)

Go Jaguars!  

I love how intense Miles is when he plays.  As soon as he hits the field his game face is on!  He does not like having his flag pulled!
