πŸ’›πŸ’™The Boston Marathon 2022 πŸ’›πŸ’™

After many years of trying to do this together, the stars finally aligned. AnnDee and I have qualified for Boston on different years, and then Covid happened and the race was cancelled… Finally we were both in at the same time!! Dreams do come true!!!

We found our names on the wall among 30,000 names!  (I know this picture looks disturbing, but I’m using my pointer finger… promise!)

I love the runners shirt this year!  Blue!!! My last one was yellow.  Now I have one of each! πŸ’™ πŸ’›

We went to the expo on the last day and everything was sold out in my size.  No jackets or anything.  Mike and Taylor were so concerned I didn't have a jacket so they walked around trying to buy a jacket off strangers that were wearing them.  It was a sweet gesture, even though it was unfruitful and I went home without a celebration jacket.

Mike had a cold so he slept in the bathroom so I could get some sleep before the race. What a nice guy!!  I creeped into the bathroom and snatched this picture in the dark!  The flash went off and lit the bathroom up like lightening πŸ˜‚. Surprise!

Race morning!  I love that Boston has a late start. It’s the only marathon like that.

Perfect weather!!  Low 50’s and a cool breeze the entire day!!  A runners dream. We had an occasional headwind, but I’m not complaining about that.  The weather was almost too good to be true! Not typical for Boston at all!

My hairdresser and neighbor went to Boston for the marathon (they lived there and went back to support a family member)… We saw her cheering at mile 19 and she took these pictures. It was fun to see a familiar face among the crowd of 500,000 people!

Here we are at the top of Heartbreak Hill at mile 21!  We made it through the hardest part of the marathon, the Newton hills from miles 18-21.

We finished!! It wasn’t our fastest (it was one of my slowest at 4:34:22 - that’s a pace of 10:18 min/mile) but it was still a respectable time.  It was the most fun I’ve ever had running a marathon!! We enjoyed the crowds, stopped for pictures, walked some, and enjoyed the perfect day.  I haven't felt like I can run like I used to since my Celiac diagnosis, but  I can still do it for the enjoyment of it!  I just need to learn to listen to my body and do what I can.

I didn’t want to buy the professional photos from the race (so expensive) but here’s a few with the watermarks πŸ˜‚

Easter 🐣

Easter was a little different this year.  We were in Hawaii the week before Easter and then we came home and Mike and I took off for the Boston Marathon…. But even with all the chaos, the Easter Bunny still found the kids even with us being out of town!  Thankfully Morgan was the best babysitter ever that weekend and made sure everything went smoothly!! Love that girl!
Ivy made this cute picture and that’s all the documentation I have of Easter this year.

πŸ– Hawaii - Day 7 & 8 🌺

Today the kids wanted to go exploring, (and I’m sure Grandma needed some peace and quiet) so we headed out for a hike.
We headed to ‘Iao Valley State Monument.  There were some little paths and places for people to walk around, but we were feeling a little more adventurous than these little paved paths.  When we saw this sign with a path behind it leading into the trees and up the mountain, of course we had to see where it went.  (Well Mike and the kids had to see and, being the rule follower that I am, I hesitated and then threw up my hands and said, “fine”, and followed them into the forbidden forest.
This is one of those times I’m glad Mike didn’t follow the rules.  This hike was breathtaking!  (And a little dangerous- I see why it was closed to the general public.)

It felt like we walked into another world. This is a memory forever etched into my memory. The kids loved every second of it and had so much fun together.  πŸ’—

For our last dinner out, we headed to Three’s Bar and Grill. So Yummy! I got the most satisfying meal of the trip- a gluten free burger and Caesar salad. Totally safe and they knew all the protocols. By far my favorite meal of the trip!

Last day. We packed up and then finished souvenir shopping.  Morgan and Miles got Maui sweatshirts.  What great memories.  So glad Grandma could come!
